Real questions. Direct answers.
Every organisation is different. Leadership cultures, team dynamics, and structural challenges never look the same from the outside as they do from the inside. These are the questions we are most often asked — answered as directly as we can. If your situation is more nuanced, we would rather talk than have you guess.
What EQUAIS is — and is not
What exactly is EQUAIS?
EQUAIS is a leadership development company that helps organisations close the activation gap — the distance between what their teams are capable of and what their leadership structure actually allows them to deliver. We do this through a monthly membership programme, bespoke leadership programmes, and standalone workshops. Everything we build is rooted in the five EQUAIS pillars and designed to produce measurable behaviour change, not just awareness.
Is this a diversity and inclusion programme?
Not in the way the phrase is usually understood. We do not run compliance training or deliver awareness sessions that end when the day does. EQUAIS is a leadership performance programme. The insight that drives it is that untapped capability is not randomly distributed — it clusters along lines of gender, generation, migration background, and socioeconomic context. So building better leadership inevitably means building more inclusive leadership. But the goal is always performance, not a checkbox.
Is this a training programme?
No. Traditional training delivers information. EQUAIS changes behaviour. The difference matters because behaviour change requires repetition, reflection, and accountability over time — not a single session followed by a certificate. Our membership model is built around a consistent monthly rhythm precisely because that is how lasting change actually happens.
Who it is for
Who should participate from our organisation?
EQUAIS is designed primarily for mid-management leaders — the people who manage teams, influence decisions, shape day-to-day culture, and are being prepared for larger roles. Senior leadership sets direction. But mid-managers are where that direction either becomes culture or quietly disappears. This is the level where the activation gap is most acute and most fixable.
What size organisation does EQUAIS work with?
We work primarily with mid-size organisations, typically those with 100 to 2,000 employees, where leadership culture is already established but not yet institutionalised, and where there is a genuine appetite to do something structural rather than cosmetic. We also work with divisions or leadership cohorts within larger organisations.
Is EQUAIS relevant for our sector?
Particularly relevant. Aerospace and defence organisations face some of the sharpest versions of the activation gap — technically excellent teams led by managers who were promoted for their expertise rather than their leadership capability, under enormous pressure to perform in ways that do not invite much reflection or honest feedback. Our Build a Team Like NASA workshop was built specifically for this context. We also work across technology, professional services, and other knowledge-intensive sectors.
How it works
What does a typical monthly session look like?
Each session runs for approximately two hours and is facilitated by an expert inclusive leadership practitioner. Sessions combine real case work, structured reflection, practical tools, and peer discussion. They are not lectures. The facilitator’s role is to create the conditions for honest conversation and behaviour change — which means the dynamic in the room matters as much as the content on the slides.
Can we start with a single workshop before committing to a programme?
Yes, and we encourage it. Our standalone workshops are designed to be genuinely useful on their own — not a teaser for something else. If one session changes how your team thinks about feedback, psychological safety, or post-pandemic leadership, that is a good outcome regardless of what comes next. Many organisations begin with a workshop and move into a programme once they have experienced the approach first-hand.
What languages do you deliver in?
English and German are our primary training languages, but we also work with trainers who speak several other languages. Just ask us, we are confident we can provide trainers in the language you need. We are based in Munich and work with organisations across the DACH region and broader Europe. If your team is multilingual, we can discuss the right approach for your context.
Results and expectations
What results should we expect?
The honest answer is that it depends on where you are starting. Organisations that go through the EQUAIS process typically see measurable shifts in how leaders communicate, how they make decisions under pressure, and how well they recognise and draw out the capability in their teams. Over time, this shows up in retention, in the quality of the leadership pipeline, and in team performance. We can help you define what success looks like for your specific context before you start.
How quickly will we see change?
Some things shift quickly, particularly in how leaders communicate and how safe it feels to have honest conversations. A deeper structural change takes longer, because it requires systems and habits to shift, not just awareness. We are honest about this from the start. The monthly rhythm is designed specifically to support change that sticks rather than change that fades after a single session.
Practical questions
What is the free Culture Evaluation?
The Culture Evaluation is a free, structured 30-minute conversation that translates your leadership and culture gaps into a clear financial picture. We estimate your annual attrition cost, the preventable share linked to leadership gaps, a people risk score, a leadership alignment grade, and an indicative return on culture investment. It costs nothing and carries no obligation. Most organisations find it genuinely clarifying — not because the numbers are surprising, but because they have never seen them written down before.
How do we get started?
The best starting point is a 30-minute discovery call. We will listen to what your organisation is dealing with, ask a few questions, and give you an honest assessment of whether and how EQUAIS can help. If we are not the right fit, we will say so. If we are, we will map out the right entry point together — whether that is a free evaluation, a single workshop, or a scoped programme.
Where is EQUAIS based, and do you work remotely?
We are based in Munich, Germany. We work with organisations across Europe, both in-person and online. All our workshops and programmes are available in both formats, the facilitation approach adapts, but the quality does not.
